Composite fillings are tooth colored resin materials used to restore a tooth that is affected by decay, chipping, fracture, wear or has a poor natural shape. When restoring teeth with a composite filling the decayed or affected area is carefully removed and the resulting space is then replaced by the composite material returning the tooth to its natural beauty. Matching the color of your existing tooth structure is paramount to the aesthetic success of the restoration, fortunately, my practice has a full palette of composite colors to choose from.
Indications for composite fillings:
- Decay in teeth
- Fractures in teeth
- Chipped or worn teeth
- Reshaping teeth
- Closing spaces between teeth
Composite fillings are but one choice for restoring your teeth. All dental materials have certain advantages and disadvantages but no dental material is capable of lasting forever. As your dentist, I will always advise you on the best material choices for any given situation based upon your needs, dental research, and my experience. Of course excellent oral hygiene practices, good dietary habits, and regular dental visits to my practice will aid in the life of any restoration.
